NAWIC ~ The National Organization NAWIC was founded in Ft. Worth, Texas in 1955. Since its founding, NAWIC has grown to a membership of over 5,800 women with close to 200 chapters in the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa & England. In its 55 years of service to its membership, NAWIC has advanced the causes of all women in construction whose careers range from business ownership to the skilled trades. We are an Education based Association that offers further education for women through the NAWIC Education Foundation (NEF), Lorman University and our meetings and job walks, which are a great opportunity to gain construction knowledge and to network with other women in the construction industry. Guests are ALWAYS welcome!! Visit our Meetings and Events page for more information. The San Diego Chapter, chartered on April 30, 1959, is very active and involved in the construction industry and the community. Each year the chapter participates in a variety of events including educational seminars and conferences, Women in Construction Week, Block Kids (construction awareness program for children in grades 1 thru 6), CAD/Drafting Contest (high school student activity), M.A.G.I.C. (a week long program designed to mentor high school girls planning to enter the construction industry), college scholarships, joint meetings with other San Diego professional organizations and various activities with local charities.
